Rainforest Recovery Consortium

Project funding from Burnett Mary Regional Groups’ RIS allocations, Rainforest Recovery (WWF) and Australian Government Envirofund. The project aims to improve the management and protection of rainforest ecosystems within the southeast Queensland (SEQ) bioregion by implementing actions within the SEQ Rainforest Recovery Plan. The project will facilitate the production of landholder information kits on threatening processes and current best management practices for grazing, fire and pest management by:

1.

Implementing incentive program focusing on improving conditions of endangered rainforest ecosystems in key areas.

2. Implement pilot projects to determine appropriate fire regimes for threatened rainforest ecosystems in the key areas.
3. Implement incentive program to assist recovery of ecological processes for : remnant mosaics, altitudinal corridors, linear corridors, isolates & Regrowth in the key areas.
4. Implementation of education program.
5. Monitoring, reporting and evaluation.

This project is split between three high capacity Landcare Groups (Noosa, Gympie, Barung) with Mary River Catchment Co-ordinating Committee acting as the conduit and reporting organisation. On ground funding will go direct to Landholders within the project areas who have been selected to meet the Rainforest recovery guidelines and will be used mainly for revegetation, regeneration, weed control, maintenance and fencing off of identified critical areas.
