Caring for Our Country Community Action Grant
(December 2009 to December 2010)

With climatic uncertainty, primary producers and landholders are making the transition to sustainable agriculture. However, land management knowledge and capacity to implement sustainable farm practices is varied across the region. The project integrates Caring for Country themes of land condition, biodiversity and aquatic habitat protection and addresses knowledge gaps relating to carbon, forest accreditation, fire management and vegetation protection.

Throughout the project we will deliver workshops on sustainable agricultural practices which feature speakers such as farmers, teachers and professors who deal with sustainability issues on a daily basis. Attendees will develop detailed property plans to assist with management of carbon, soil, fire & biodiversity, and receive a complimentary property visit which includes water quality and soil testing.

The proposed activities are designed to fill knowledge gaps, boost confidence levels and facilitate resource-sharing, networking and co-operation between farmers practising sustainable agriculture and those needing to learn these practices.

This project was supported by Noosa & District Landcare through funding from the Australian Government’s Caring for our Country.
