| A Sediment and Nutrient Model to Determine the Resilience of the Upper Noosa River This project addresses a number of the Sunshine Coast Council’s natural resource management priorities, including erosion and sediment control, water quality conservation and climate change. Analysis of radionuclide markers will be used to identify the origin and date of deposition of sediments within the lake, providing a picture of historically significant erosion processes. Ambient and event flows and nutrient loads will be monitored and quantified, providing a picture of current sediment and nutrient transport through the system. Our understanding of within lake processes and sediment nutrient cycling will also be enhanced as part of this project. This information can then be used to target erosion mitigation works and catchment management strategies more effectively and will help determine the resilience of the Noosa River system in the face climate change, population growth and future peri urban and rural development. Valuable partnerships and reciprocal pathways for knowledge sharing will be reinforced by combining community volunteer capacity and local knowledge with scientific research and methodology. The project is funded by the Sunshine Coast Council. In kind contributors and partner organisations are listed below: Cootharaba Community Association, Department of Environment and Resource Management, Maroochy River Waterwatch, Noosa Integrated Catchment Association, Noosa River Waterwatch, Queensland National Parks & Wildlife (Elanda Point), SEQ Catchments, SEQ Healthy Waterways, Unity Water, University of the Sunshine Coast, University of Queensland.
