Envirofund Projects

Upper Kin Kin Creek Restoration Project
Australian Government Envirofund (start November 2007)

The aim of this project is to assist members of the Friends of Kin Kin Creek to maintain the continuity of environmental restoration works being undertaken on their properties which fall in the upper Kin Kin Creek catchment area. Initially 8 properties will be targeted and support and advice will be given for weed removal, native plant regeneration, revegetation, erosion issues and fencing.

The Noosa River has a total catchment area of 784.3 square kilometers, of which the Kin Kin Creek Catchment is 267.7 square kilometers. This is just over one third of Noosa River’s entire catchment. The headwaters of Kin Kin Creek is surrounded by State Forest to the west, much of which is in excellent condition, and flows into Lake Cootharaba (the start of the estuarine waters of the Noosa River) to the east, and provides a crucial role for connectivity of altitudinal and linear corridors. The catchment has a tremendous potential for recovery, due to the proximity of a diverse seed source, high rainfall and a changing demographic.
